As I read 2 Chronicles 7:14 over and over, I started dissecting each part of the verse. It went something like this: and My people who are called by My name (ok, that’s me and the Church, cool), humble themselves (ok, setting my pride aside and humbly coming to God, I like that), pray and seek My Face (ok got it, His people are praying and seeking His face, awesome!).
Then this next part really struck me and it struck me hard; and turn from their evil ways. I stared at this part for a while and was wondering why did this part of the verse hit such a nerve in my Spirit? No one really enjoys talking about this but I performed a self evaluation on myself (talk about a humbling experience).
I started with the easy check list first:
Do I go to church?
Do I read the Bible?
Do I worship God?
Do I pray?
Awesome! I’m in good standings, this part of the verse doesn’t talk about me! HA! Then the next level of self evaluation came:
Do my thoughts glorify God?
Do I spend more time focused on my phone than I do focused on my spouse or family?
Do I spend more time on social media than I do in the Bible?
Do I stop gossip when it comes up?
Do I talk about people behind their back?
Do I put anything in front of God?
Do I know more stats about sports than I do Bible scriptures?
Do my coworkers know that I am called by His name?
Do my actions and reactions lead people to God or push them away from God?
This was gut-wrenching and eye opening. There are many other questions that God will bring to your Spirit. God knows your thoughts, He knows your Heart, He knows your Spirit. I encourage each one of us to pray and seek God to bring forth any evil in our lives that we must get rid of it. REPENT from these evil ways and TURN from them! God and evil do not mix. He can not stand to be around it and will not associate with it.
So, that is why this part of the verse hit my Spirit so hard…when we are praying and seeking His face, we MUST make sure there is no evil in our lives in order to truly draw near God.
THEN I will hear from heaven (we have became closer to Him by humbling ourselves and getting rid of our evil) , forgive their sin (He is willing to forgive our sins and our evil ways) , and heal their land (revival will spread!).
