Holy Week Devotion - Saturday by Nina Payne

The Sabbath sun rose brightly and the day fell dark as pitch.

They were paralyzed, hiding in plain view. Their hearts and minds were running with fear, shame and confusion.

Fear of what might come, what might happen. Would they be hunted? Were they looking for them now? What about their families?

Ashamed of what had been their response or lack of response in the moment. But what could they have done?
Confused as to how quick the world had viciously lunged for the blood of a good man. Or was He? Was He good? Was He a just a man?

Things were very confusing now, so very unsure. The authorities called Him blasphemer and judged Him with sinners. How could all the good be so wrong? How was it they had not understood or had they misunderstood?

Could they just go back to that little place up north and do what they had always done. Could they just blend in again?

On the other side of terra firma, the Light stood in blazing glory!

Fear, shame, and confusion ran screaming and begging for darkness. Stripped and shown for what they were. All vanquished foes!

A place called paradise was abuzz. The message came “Make way for the Great Conqueror”. The Overcomers took their place, --- the prophets, the priests, the kings, the patriarchs, the shepherds, the widows, those who had been lepers, those who had been blind, those who had been lame, those who had been the outcast and, oh yes, the newly arrived previous thief, -- all related to the Great Conqueror.

Worship broke out as they formed the parade ranks. Some danced with all their might. Then they heard a “BANG” on the cymbals! Yes, they even gave a “holy wave”. It was a beautiful thing! They all magnified the Great Holy God! They declared His glory! They proclaimed His sovereignty!
They were ready for what would happen next!

2020. You might have thought the first paragraphs were describing our current times. Days “rising brightly and falling darkly” or maybe it just seems dark all around. Fear and uncertainty multiplying and changing the fabric of society. Confusion and fear are rampant.

We might find ourselves asking “what’s going on? What’s going to happen? What will happen to me? What will happen to my family? Am I foolish and weak to continue this path”?

If this world is the center of our perspective, chaos and destruction are the only possible end points. For sure, there’s nothing to go back to.

Your Life is in front of you. ADVANCE! is the cry of the day. Look up! Our redemption draws close!

As Believers we know, as the song says, “...even when I don’t see it” He’s working. Ours is the promise of the One who never stops “providing everything we need for life and Godliness”.

This is our God who has “in all these things made us more than conquerors through Christ Jesus our Lord”. Furthermore, let it be known, “all things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to his purpose” for His glory and our good!

Get your worship on! Dust off those dancing shoes! Let the Church arise! Get behind the Great Conqueror and get ready to be a part of the overcomers parade.

Are you ready for what will happen next?

Mark 14:50, Matt.26:15, Ephesians 4:8, Hebrews 12:1, Lk. 21:28, 2 Peter 1:3, Romans 8:28, 37
