I am pregnant and it's not your child!
I am pregnant and it's not your child! If this came from your fiancé, how would you respond? These words would pierce any man's heart, down to a gut-wrenching sickening.
This is what Joseph had to comprehend when Mary announced her miracle to her fiancé. I'm thinking that he found her story to be far out and unbelievable. And then Mary, as excited as she surely was, had to feel a bit of awkwardness when she told Joseph. But, when God has His hand in it, rest assured He knows what He's doing and no way is He going to leave Mary hanging.
Matthew 1:18
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph, her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
Now Joseph has accepted Jesus as his own son. I am sure that he still had many thoughts to sort through. This is BIG news! His original ideas and dreams of fatherhood had just taken a sharp turn. He was now heading into the role of an adopted dad, a blended family.
How clever that God the Father chose by His Spirit to incarnate His Son to be adopted in flesh by a man, to in-turn by His Spirit through His Son adopt all men and women who ask God to be their Father.
Have you ever thought that maybe blended families don't work? Stepparents, adopted parents, grandparents, or any variety of blended families are significant throughout the Bible. As told in multiple stories including the lives of Moses and Samuel, prove that God will surely bless a blended or broken family.
Unexpected twists and hardships are a guarantee in life. But before you think because it's not your biological child that you aren't significant, consider like Joseph did, and think again.
