HOLY DAY
“On the seventh day God had completed His work that He had done and He rested on the
seventh day. God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for in it He rested from all His
work of creation.” Genesis 2:2-3 CSB
“But we do see Jesus made lower than the angels for a short time so that by God’s grace He
might taste death for everyone, crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death.”
Hebrews 2:9 CSB
“The women who came with Him from Galilee followed along and observed the tomb and how
the body was placed. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And they rested on
the Sabbath.” Luke 23: 55-56 CSB
Holy Saturday marks the final day of Holy Week. It is observed as a day of solemn, silent
reflection, prayer and waiting between the times of Jesus’ death and resurrection. He rested
on the Sabbath after completing His work of Salvation.
This was a time of mourning for the disciples, a world of darkness without the resurrection.
First, they waited. They could not finish tending Jesus body for entombment. They felt little
hope on this seventh day.
Holy Saturday tells us that Jesus undertook the loneliness of death as part of redeeming us.
Prayer-
Thank you, Jesus, for tasting death for me so that I can live through you. Thank you that I have
been spiritually raised with you and the same power that raised Christ from the dead, now lives
in me.
